During the recent Read Across America Week, Ron Nunn Elementary School hosted Reach for the Stars, a pledge-based reading program sponsored by Usborne Books. Participating students read 30 minutes a day for 10 consecutive days. By collecting pledges from family and friends, students earned Usborne books for their own in-home libraries. Signifying the importance that reading plays in his students' lives, Ron Nunn Principal Scott Vernoy is the first principal in Northern California to give back 100 percent of the pledge monies to his students in Usborne books. The entire student body was motivated to read four books during Read Across America week, which resulted in Vernoy eating his lunch on the school roof.
