The mercury is rising, but rescue is on the way. From now through July 31, the Kids Helping Kids Lemonade Stand Challenge is on.
Last year, the organization's 31 lemonade stands raised over $1,000 to help save Ugandan children from being sold into slavery. Residents are encouraged to sponsor a stand in front of their houses, at sports events or at the park. This is a great way to keep kids busy, said Laura Page of Kids Helping Kids. It lets them be creative and allows them to give back in a way that makes sense to them.
The Lemonade Stand Challenge will reward kids in the following categories:
Most Money Raised prize: two tickets to Disneyland.
Most Stands Held by July 31 prize: three tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Most Creative prize: Aladino's Pizza Family Special for four.
Participants are encouraged to take photos and send Kids Helping Kids their stories for the organization's newsletters and Web site.
Participating kids should call 925-759-4806 or e-mail laurapage@kidzhelpingkids.org and leave their name, phone number and e-mail address. Kids Helping Kids will keep in touch with them on their progress over the next couple of months. The most important thing, said Page, is to have fun!
