Tri Delta Transit bus operator Gilbert Castro was named one of the three best drivers in North America at the 2008 International Bus Roadeo held in May in Austin, Texas. Placing third overall at this year's competition, Gilbert is no newcomer to this elite status. He was the first-place winner back in 2003 as part of the overall International Grand Champion team from Tri Delta Transit.

This year, 76 bus operators from the United States and Canada competed in the 40-foot bus competition to test their driving skills. To do this well against so many of the best drivers in the country is a real accomplishment, said Tri Delta Transit CEO Jeanne Krieg. Gilbert is one of many great drivers we have operating our buses every day, and we're thrilled about his success at this year's competition.

The Roadeo conducts a bus driver competition and a maintenance competition. The driver competition measures professional skills including bus operation and safety. The maintenance competition judges drivers' abilities to troubleshoot a variety of mechanical problems, from air-brake to diesel-engine defects.
