To further celebrate the completion of City Park Playground, Rivertown merchants are inviting the community to a free outdoor movie event at the park on June 14 as part of the 2econd Saturday series of free events that runs from May through October.
City Park Outdoor Cinema Night will feature The Bee Movie, the Jerry Seinfeld-produced animation film that centers on a bee (voiced by Seinfeld) who befriends a florist (voiced by Renee Zellweger), only to discover that humans have been stealing bees' honey for centuries and that he must stop them. The PG-rated movie begins at nightfall (about 8:30 p.m.) on the grass area next to the new playground at the historic park located on the corner of Tenth and A streets.
Along with running a downtown business in Antioch, many Rivertown merchants also live in our community, said Brian Nunnally, the city's economic development analyst, and hosting this outdoor movie event in City Park is their way of honoring the many community volunteers who literally built this park with their own two hands.
For those who crave a sweet treat while they watch the movie, Papa's Kettle Korn will be on hand selling its signature kettle corn, caramel corn, cotton candy, caramel apples, sno-cones and ice-cold slushies.
Upcoming 2econd Saturday events include July's Rivertown Sidewalk Sale and Concert, which offers outdoor shopping deals and live music by local bluesman Frankie G, and August's Rivertown Dog Day of Summer event, featuring a non-traditional community dog show plus pet adoption opportunities and other dog-related activities.
