In what has become a tradition for many East County families, the annual Antioch Fourth of July Celebration returns next Friday with its yearly Car Show at 2 p.m., the popular Hometown Parade at 5 p.m., and culminates in the Fireworks Extravaganza that begins about 9:30 p.m.

The lengthy downtown Antioch waterfront serves as an ideal backdrop for a community event, and each year onlookers are treated to an impressive display of colorful fireworks that reflect brightly off the Delta waters, said Brian Nunnally, economic development analyst for the city of Antioch and one of the event planners.

As in previous years, the Antioch Fourth of July Celebration remains an alcohol-free event. There is no cost for admission, and Tri-Delta Transit will again be providing free shuttle service from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. between downtown Antioch and the two pickup locations: Contra Costa Fairgrounds and Antioch High School.

With a wide array of live music, delicious food and fun activities, the event is geared to providing families with an entertaining and safe venue as they celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, said Nunnally, and we expect this year to be bigger and better than ever.
