The Brentwood Blast 9U baseball team played five games at a United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) tournament over Father's Day weekend, making its first championship game and very nearly taking home the title.
The outstanding pitching performances of Stirling Strong, Michael Daysog and Kevin Lonergan led the way.
Matthew Petures, Jack Mitchener, Josh Shifflett and Matthew Willis supplied the offensive charge as the Blast exploded into Sunday's championship game against the Pleasant Hill Hawks.
Although the Blast couldn't defeat the Hawks for a second consecutive day, manager Ed Mitchener was pleased with both the effort his team put forth and the growth he's seen from his players throughout the season.
They've come so far in a short period of time, Mitchener said.
The Blast 9U players are Michael Daysog, Matthew Petures, Kevin Lonergan, Matthew Willis, Stirling Strong, Joshua Shifflett, Kamren Carey, Devin Norris, Ethan Marchetti, AJ Jobb, Jack Mitchener and Will McCurdy.
