Tri Delta Transit is brightening its customers' day by taking away their light sunlight, that is. Tri Delta Transit employees have begun distributing 1,500 logo-clad umbrellas to provide cool shade for customers waiting for buses in the summer sun.

During the summer months we are especially concerned about our customers because of the severe heat that we experience in this part of the county, said Director of Marketing Mike Furnary. While we have a number of shelters located throughout our service area, some areas don't offer any protection from the elements, natural or otherwise. An umbrella is a great way to provide personal protection from the sun and can be put to use anywhere.

Every summer, Tri Delta Transit sees an increase in the number of requests to install shelters at bus stops where there is no natural source of shade. Unfortunately, an average shelter costs about $10,000 to purchase and install. The umbrellas will provide immediate comfort to well over a thousand Tri Delta Transit customers.

Tri Delta Transit staff members will be all over East County in next couple of weeks, distributing umbrellas at bus stops, park and ride lots and at BART. Bus riders can also pick one up, while supplies last, at Tri Delta Transit's administrative offices on Wilbur Avenue in Antioch.
