A quartet of East County kids ponied up their pony tails recently to provide for people in need.

Above right is Lily Partida, 8, who just finished the second grade at Brentwood Elementary School. Lily donated her hair to Locks of Love after seeing pictures of other kids doing it.

Her paternal grandmother and her mother are both cancer survivors, so Lily visited the ladies at Lollipop Haircut Shop, who snipped 10 inches of Lily's curly locks.

Lily loves her new summer haircut and hopes her donation will make some other kid's scalp a sensation.

Then there are Discovery Bay Elementary second-graders Melanie Lucia-Evans, Hailey Holzschuh and Katelyn Hall, who recently joined Pantene's million-inch chain, promoted by actress Hilary Swank.

Each girl contributed 8 to 9 inches of hair to the creation of free wigs for cancer patients. Their parents are very proud of them.
