Editor:

Thank-you to everyone in Brentwood's California Orchard who donated socks, toiletries and unwanted jeans for the recent East Bay Veteran's Stand Down in Pleasanton.

The jeans were cut apart and reassembled into sturdy tote bags by volunteers; then filled with the socks and toiletry items. Because of your thoughtfulness, the Blue Star Moms were able to provide 500 tote bags to the Veterans of our Armed Services.

The next Stand Down will be in October for the North Bay Veterans. Again, we will need clean, unwanted jeans or sturdy fabric for the totes. Also needed are tube socks, full sized shampoo, conditioner, soap and toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, razors and shaving cream, nail clippers, and plastic containers for the soap and toothbrushes. There will be over 500 veterans attending this Stand Down, so the need is great.

If you would like to help, place a collection box in your place of business. If you have any questions, please call me at 925-240-9034. Items may also be dropped off at 624 Cashew Court in Brentwood.

Thank you for honoring our vets!
