Masonic spirit honored

One member from each of the seven Antioch Masonic family of organizations were recognized recently at the second annual Masonic Spirit Awards event at the Antioch-Brentwood Masonic Lodge.

Instituted in 2007 by the Antioch-Brentwood Lodge No. 175, Free and Accepted Masons, the Masonic Spirit Award is conferred on one representative from each of the seven local concordant bodies. The award is presented to a member or adult advisor who best exemplifies the Masonic spirit of brotherly love and has been involved in several Masonic-based organizations.

The 2008 Masonic Spirit Awards were presented to Larry C. Dowell, Antioch-Brentwood Masonic Lodge No. 175, Free and Accepted Masons; David N. Cook, Contra Costa Commandery No. 59, Knights Templar; David M. Shull, Ancient Antioch Chapter No. 31, Royal Arch Masons; Marsha Antrobus, Ariel Chapter No. 42, Order of the Eastern Star; Debbie Brown, Antioch Chapter DeMolay; Elise Antrobus, Diablo Valley Assembly No. 84, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls; and Ruthann Rubin, Antioch Bethel No. 115, International Order of Job's Daughters.

Also presented during the ceremony were the DeMolay Lamp of Knowledge award to Shawn Hancock, and the 2008 Hiram Award the highest honor a lodge can bestow on a member to Archie Gore, Antioch-Brentwood Masonic Lodge No. 175, Free and Accepted Masons.

The aforementioned Masonic organizations meet regularly at the Antioch-Brentwood Masonic Lodge in downtown Antioch and draw their members from the East County area and beyond.
