The Delta Dawgs 11U Blue team, a traveling baseball club from East County, is off to a stellar start this season, winning three consecutive tournaments including last weekend's USSSA Brentwood Ballin tournament at Sunset Fields.
The Dawgs tallied a 5-0 record at the Elk Grove Miken Challenge tournament on Aug. 17, which ended with a 13-3 victory over the Elk Grove Dirtbags in the championship game.
The Blue Dawgs averaged 9.8 runs per game at the Elk Grove event while allowing only 2.8. Junior Muniz and Jake Ratliff were named co-MVPs of the tournament for leading the Dawgs' offensive charge.
In the team's tournament opener against the Solano PONY Baseball team, pitchers Andrew Davidson, Clayton Creer and Nick DiCicco combined to pitch the Blue Dawgs to a 9-5 win. Davidson and Bryce Pryblinski cranked out two hits each and drove in two runs in the game.
Against the Roseville Titans in game two, Dawgs' pitchers Pryblinski and Nasser Issa combined for the 12-0 shutout.
In bracket play the following day, the Blue Dawgs earned a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the Bulldog Baseball Club thanks to strong pitching from Ratliff, Mason Fountain and CJ Sneath. DiCicco and Issa delivered clutch hits that drove in the tying and go-ahead runs.
In the semifinals, the Blue Dawgs met the Solano PONY team again in a game that ended in a 9-1 victory. Pryblinski pitched four strong innings, allowing just one run. Muniz, Sneath, Creer and Brady Carmignani led the Dawgs' offense.
In the championship game against the Elk Grove Dirtbags, the Delta squad unleashed their thundersticks in the bottom of the first inning, scoring a whopping nine runs. DiCicco and Pryblinski each drove in three runs, helping the Blue Dawgs cruise to the 13-3 victory and their first 11U tournament title.
Hot off their success in Elk Grove, the Blue Dawgs headed to Modesto's Rainbow Fields for the Baseball Players Association September Classic, where it won four straight for yet another title.
The team's lethal bats and dominant pitching proved superior as the offense averaged 11.75 runs per game with a .469 batting average. The stingy defense allowed an average of 2.25.
The Blue Dawgs won their third straight crown at the USSSA Brentwood Ballin tournament at Sunset Fields on Sept. 21, extending their record to 14-0. Sneath pitched six strong innings against the Bay Valley Bombers to earn the 7-3 victory in the championship game of the Brentwood tournament. Fountain pitched a three-inning no-hitter in Sunday's opening game over the Lodi Legends.
Muniz and Fountain were named tournament co-MVPs. Muniz hit .571 with eight runs scored and five RBIs, while Fountain hit .545 with eight runs scored and four RBIs. Davidson led all Dawg players with eight RBIs.
