John and Helen Torres of Brentwood celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 9 at the Torres Ranch in Brentwood. Their actual wedding date is April 25, but due to bad weather during that month, they decided to hold the celebration in August.

Their children, John Jr. (Nancy), Ron, Robin, and grandchildren Eddie, Andrew (Sandy), Marcy, Monica, Ashley, Amber and Ivan, all of Brentwood, hosted the celebration. The omission of gifts was requested but if guests wished, they could bring a grocery item to be donated to Shepherd's Gate Woman's Shelter.

More than 300 family and friends were entertained by the Fugitivos Del Stress, who serenaded guests at every table. Also, Romano Marchetti's Band from Antioch accompanied the dancing.

John and Helen have traveled to many foreign countries and taken many cruises prior to John's retirement. Now John enjoys driving a 1925 Model T and the 1942 and 1952 military jeep that he restored from scratch.

John owned Premier Heating & Air until his retirement 21 years ago when the business was turned over to his two sons and daughter. Helen attended Los Medanos College in Pittsburg to take travel classes and has been working as an independent agent for Discovery Bay Travel prior to the office moving to Brentwood more than 20 years ago.
