In recognition of Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Joseph A. Ovick's leadership in expanding and improving the services offered by the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) to school districts, students and educators, the CCCOE's newest school will be dedicated in his name on Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at 120 Middlefield Court in Brentwood.

The newly constructed Joseph A. Ovick School will accommodate two community school classrooms, a CCCOE independent study room, a Brentwood Union School District independent study room, and staff offices.

Ovick's 37-year career in education began as a special-education teacher in Santa Clara County. He also served as an assistant principal, principal, director of special education, assistant superintendent for student services and associate superintendent for business. In each of these jobs, he has maintained direct contact with students, and as superintendent, he visits classrooms regularly.
