With all the problems we face in Antioch, it's obvious the current leaders aren't getting the job done. Yet, the incumbent mayor is running for re-election, and his fellow councilman and opponent is running for mayor for a third time. Amazing.

They've both had 10 years on the council, but think they deserve either re-election or a promotion. That's not the way it works in the real world. In business, your contract either doesn't get renewed, you get demoted, or you get fired.

It's time for new leadership in Antioch, and fortunately, we have someone with the experience, knowledge and ideas to lead us.

That person is Allen Payton, a local, successful businessman, founding publisher of the Antioch Press, former mayor pro tem, county transportation commissioner, and chairman of the Highway 4 Bypass Authority.

We need him as our mayor now.
