Lion cheer nurtures national aspirations

Over the past decade, Liberty High School's varsity cheerleaders have established a tradition of success at the highest level. This year's Lady Lion squad, although young and lacking varsity experience, is well on its way to continuing that tradition.

In its first competition of the season, the team recently secured a bid to the United Spirit Association's High School Spirit Nationals in Anaheim this March with a first-place finish in the advanced division at a USA competition at California's Great America theme park.

Our varsity team is very young this year. We only have three returning varsity members, but the girls were up for the challenge, said rally squad advisor and competition coach Jennifer Watson. We have some of our best tumbling this year and are starting off with five standing tucks.
