Donna Conley won an easy re-election victory Tuesday night, gaining 45 percent of the vote in a four-person race for city treasurer, nearly doubling the vote total of second-place finisher Janet Davis.

Making Conley's win even more impressive was the fact that she spent money only for a campaign statement in the ballot packet and none on signs or campaign mailers.

I am very happy, said Conley. I am a little surprised. I thought that Janet Davis might get more votes than she did, simply because she's connected to Jim Davis. Davis is the sister-in-law of Councilman Jim Davis, who was elected mayor on Tuesday.

When asked why she thought she won, Conley said, Because I have done good for the city. I have saved the city money. I have kept our investments safe. I have done my job and done it well. I have enjoyed my four years (as treasurer), and I look forward to the next four.
