The Delta Patriots Varsity East pummeled the Tracy Buccaneers 46-6 in the team's opening playoff game Saturday at Heritage High School.
Tailback Luke Miner led the scoring frenzy by amassing 145 yards on six carries and three TDs, while Andrew Topete rushed for 107 yards on nine carries. Fullback Matt Raakchaat's solid lead blocking also contributed with 40 yards on three carries. QB Brian Wargo threw for 81 yards, connecting with Albert Waters II and Marcus Big Mac McDonald for TDs.
OLB Alex Filardo led the defensive unit with a 50-yard pick six and a fumble recovery return for 30 yards for another score. His counterpart on the opposite side, T.J. Briggs, added an interception and a fumble recovery.
ILBs Raakchaat, Danny Stoltz and Mitchell Petures continued to plug the middle with solid defensive plays, forcing two fumbles. Andrew Topete made three solo tackles and three assists, while DB Nate Rollins notched an interception.
Special teams pinned the Bucs in their own territory on all six Wargo kickoffs. Johnny Briseno made another fumble recovery, giving him three for the season. Briggs put two PATs through the uprights, capping the scoring bonanza.
