With just a little more than a week left before the opening of her outdoor skating rink, what's keeping Lynn Roberts awake at night are not visions of sugarplums. Instead, what's dancing inside the head of the former professional ice skater are twinkling lights, frozen ice and 450 pairs of rental skates.
We're going for the decent leather skates that was a big deal to me, said Roberts. Right now, I'm feeling pretty much like a one-armed paperhanger. It's been a ton of work getting the construction done and ordering everything, but it's going to be beautiful.
Holiday on Ice, located at the new Streets of Brentwood (also partial sponsor of the rink) opens Nov. 24 and will run through the end of January. Open to the public and available for private parties, skaters can come to the rink, rent their skates and enjoy a turn on the ice right here in East County.
With the economy the way it is right now, people can't necessarily afford a luxury trip to Tahoe or Colorado, said Roberts. This is a place that our community can come to and enjoy the spirit of the season.
