The East Diablo Youth Soccer League's U12 Monarchs started the season 2-5, but went on a winning streak to take the No. 4 seed in the playoffs.
Victories over the fifth- and first-seeded teams earned the Monarchs a place in the championship game at Sunset Athletic Park, where they defeated the second-seeded Ice Breakers 2-1 to take the title.
