Grace Bible Fellowship in Brentwood hosted its sixth annual Thanksgiving Outreach by inviting the community to enjoy a free, full-course Thanksgiving meal.
More than 450 traditional holiday meals turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, yams and all the fixings were served by more than 100 volunteers from Grace, other local churches and the community.
Many of the event's guests were low-income families who otherwise would not have enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal. Event volunteers distributed more than 100 bags of donated groceries, food vouchers and clothing. Leftovers were donated to the Antioch Phoenix Program rehab facility.
It's great to see our faith put into concrete action, said Ralph Saviano, one of the event's organizers. It's so wonderful to spend time helping those less fortunate and offering hope to our community.
Although most of the food was prepared by local church members, Safeway, Starbucks and Panera Bread made additional donations and contributed volunteers.
The spirit of thankfulness wasn't confined to those who were served the Thanksgiving meal. All those who helped serve it expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to their community in a tangible way. Many said the experience heightened their awareness of the many blessings they enjoy as they start the holiday season.
Grace Bible Fellowship is located on McClaren Road across from McClaren Park and extends an open invitation for the community to join them for their regular activities. For more information on, call 925-634-2188 or visit www.gbfellowship.net.
