I'm writing this letter to bring attention to the continual secularization of our holidays. The Park and Recreation Department used to have Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Now, it's just Breakfast with the Bunny. Who is this bunny, and why would I (or my children) want to have breakfast with him/her?
As if that's not bad enough, now we're no longer calling Christmas trees Christmas trees but holiday trees ?! What is a holiday tree? Are we talking about the evergreens we decorate in December that used to be called Christmas trees? I know the Christmas tree originated from the celebration of winter solstice by pagans long ago. Is that what they're (those who's renaming the tree) referring to?
I can understand big liberal cities like San Francisco renaming their Christmas trees holiday trees, but here in small town USA Brentwood?
The Jewish people have the Menorah when they celebrate Hanukkah and African-Americans who choose to celebrate Kwanza have the Mishumaa Saba (seven candles, one black, three red and three green). Why can't those of us who choose to celebrate Christmas have our Christmas trees? Why is our Christmas tree being renamed a holiday tree?
Is America becoming so threatened by anything and everything related to Christianity that they have to blot out everything that has the name of Christ in it? America is becoming a scary place. How long will it be before those of us who embrace the Christian faith have to worship in underground churches?
