The Brentwood Women's Golf Club has been playing well in the Bay Area Team Play Championships.

With nine golf clubs scattered around East Bay, Brentwood holds down fourth place in the pursuit of runner-up status in the standings.

The local team will travel to Lake Chabot on Friday to meet Sunward, the Lake Chabot team that leads in points by a big margin.

Sunward's 104 points lead runner-up Franklin Canyon by 20. Boundary Oak holds down third at 76, and Brentwood is fourth with 67 1/3.

In its most recent win over Alameda, the Brentwood Club team was made up of Debbie Taylor, Kay Smith, Deanna Hauser and Jan Harrington.

MATCH PLAY GOLF

The women experienced fun and frustration when they played in the BWGC Match Play Championship.

It was different for the women in the tournament who rarely play that format. There was a lot of chitchat between them as they tried to figure some way to play all 18 holes each day.

The top winners were Sue McClanahan and Deane Morris, who defeated Nancy Erickson and Hauser in the final to the first flight. The second flight went to Marilyn Butterfield and Linda Fuller over Mary Hershberger and Lori Miller.

The first flight consolation winners were Nona Jacobsen and Sande Banke, while second flight honors went to Phyllis Young and Dorothy Dillon.
