Many youth along the Balfour Road golf corridor look forward to the summer months when the junior golf programs get underway.

Shadow Lakes, Roddy Ranch, Deer Ridge and Brentwood Golf Club all offer golf camps or discount promotions for young golfers.

The camps already are under way at Shadow Lakes, which hosted its first camp this week. It will follow with instructive sessions late this summer.

Dane Judson, head golf pro at Brentwood Golf Club, has been heading the youth programs successfully for a number of years. It is the biggest of the local events.

The next camp at the BGC will be July 24 through 28. Campers are enrolled for $100 and get lessons in etiquette, grips, stance, posture, full swing, irons, woods, chipping and pitching. Vince Howell will put on a long drive exhibition the final day of camp.

FAMILY PRICING

Bargain rates are available for youngsters and family members at Shadow Lakes.

"Our programs geared toward specific groups of golfers are working well," said director of golf Ron Parish. "We're especially happy with the turnout we've been getting on Sundays. It's geared for families to play together Sunday afternoon." Parents play for the super twilight rate, but can tee off after noon instead of waiting until the twilight time of 3:30 p.m. The youth pay only a $5 fee to play with their parents.
