The NorCal Hurricanes 11U baseball team competed in the recent tournament at Twin Creek Park in Sunnyvale and swept five games to post its first tournament championship.

The Hurricanes began tournament play on Saturday with a 7-3 victory over the Brentwood Blast Blue team. A three-run rally in the third inning started NorCal's offense, as Anthony Davis tripled to score Tyler Deven and Connor Vis. Anthony scored following a triple by Kody Shanks. In the fourth inning, the Hurricanes scored four times to take a 7-0 lead before the Blast scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to make the final score 7-3. Brian Wargo and Justin Cash shared most of the pitching duties and held the Blast hitters in check to seal the victory.

In Saturday's second game, the Hurricanes scored in every inning to hold off the Silicon Valley Hornets 7-5. NorCal batters Jesse Padilla, Cash, Brock McElvain, Johnny Hemenes, Vis and Shanks pounded out 10 hits. Anthony Davis and Zach Finley combined to hold the Hornets to five runs and Wargo pitched a flawless last inning to record a save and close out the victory.

On Sunday, the Hurricanes romped to a 13-5 victory over the Brentwood Blast Red team. NorCal belted 17 hits and scored six runs in the first inning to set the stage for the win. Shanks and Wargo were the biggest hitters of the day, with Shanks belting a triple and Wargo whacking a homerun to key the big first inning rally. Johnny Briseno, Finley, Hemenes and Davis notched two hits each and Hemenes pitched a complete game to earn the victory.

On Monday, the Hurricanes finished pool play by beating the Knightsen Titans 13-5. Vis helped NorCal's offense with two RBI, Deven had an RBI and scored a run, Davis had a run scoring single and McElvain pitched four strong innings to clinch the win. On defense, several Hurricanes contributed big plays, including second baseman Padilla's diving catch of a sinking liner and center fielder Deven's leaping catch in the right-center field gap to double off a Titan runner.

In the championship game, NorCal faced the Titans again and played a solid game to record a 6-1 victory. Davis paced the offense with three hits, and Hemenes and Shanks each had two. Shanks and Davis each hit a triple and Wargo pitched five strong innings, limiting the Titans to five hits and one run. Wargo was helped tremendously by solid catching provided by Briseno. The Hurricanes also played excellent defense, committing no errors in route to their championship clinching victory.
