It's time for the Brentwood Men's Golf Club Championship and that means another final match between club champion Bob Olds and runner-up Bobby Nunn appears imminent.

The title chase started this week and will go through four rounds, with eight golfers in each flight. The participants will determine the date and time of the weekly matches.

Olds and Nunn have hooked up in the title match the last three years. Olds holds the edge.

It wasn't easy. Two years ago the pair came to the 18th hole all even. Then Olds, an outstanding golfer in senior amateur events, unleashed the shot heard round Summerset. His second shot zoomed over the water hazard to the green, and then it rolled into the hole.

An eagle on the par five and the match was over. Last year the pair reached the final hole again and Olds again walked off with the trophy, not needing another eagle this time.

The flights for the tournament will be established in ascending order of indexes through eight.

OLD GIFT CERTIFICATES WORTH MORE

With a little research, Brentwood head golf professional Dane Judson has discovered there are a large number of BGC gift certificates "on the books," many from more than one year ago.

These certificates were awarded in lieu of cash to the winners and runners-up in men's and women's play days and tournaments.

"We have so many out that we are having a "Get rid of your Brentwood Gift Certificate Sale!" Dane said. "It started last weekend and goes through Sept. 30."

Annual pass holders will get a 10 percent discount to start. Then draw another (or one for non-pass holders) from a basket and each of those will be in the five, 10, 15, 20 and 30 percent range. Golf balls and clubs will be limited to 25 percent total discount.
