The modified All-Star Series is in the midst of a close point race, as the racers have the opportunity to pick up All-Star points in certain races at both the Antioch and Chowchilla Speedways.
Kellen Chadwick of Oakley has been the big winner at Antioch but doesn't figure in the two-track series because he bypasses Chowchilla due to his racing travels. He's made most of the local races and holds a 422-364 lead over Brad Coehlo in the Antioch races.
Many of Chadwick's races here have been last-minute deals and he's made the most of them with six main-event wins and one second place in his seven races.
Coehlo is second locally in addition to being in the thick of the series race along with Keith Brown Sr. and Ed Daviess.
On hand for Saturday night, in addition to the dirt modifieds, will be the limited late models, super stocks, pure stocks and BCRA midget lites, which are making their second appearance of the season.
David Press has raced into contention in the wingless sprints by winning his second main event last weekend. The victory moved him up to second place in the point standings.
Last year Press tried to run both his sprint car and his dirt modified and wound up eighth in the sprint standings and 18th in the modified. This year he's parked his modified and concentrated on the faster machine.
Other winners last weekend were Billy Barnes in the pure stocks; Ricardo Rivera in the dwarf cars; Mike Gustafson in the limited late models; and Match Machado in the super stocks.
