Teens living in Contra Costa County, earning a GPA of 2.0 or above and interested in participating in an exciting program are being sought to volunteer throughout the year on behalf of the Contra Costa County Fair.

The Contra Costa County Junior Fair Board will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, perform community service and become aware of the business and operations of the 23rd District Agricultural Association (Contra Costa County Fair). Teens looking to serve on the 2006-07 Contra Costa County Junior Fair Board have until Sept. 15 to submit an application.

"Members of the Junior Fair Board will gain real-world experience in a unique environment while our staff will receive a fresh, young perspective of the fair," said Fair CEO Lori Marshall. The Junior Fair Board's duties would include providing outreach in its communities and schools as well as input to the Fair staff and Senior Fair Board regarding what their age groups would like to see at the fair.

Their efforts would also include pre-fair setup in all departments of the fair and involvement in all pre-fair activities. During the fair in June they would assist with fair visitors with special needs, the fair education program, act as greeters at the gates, assist with special promotions, create and produce a special contest, and any other duties required to ensure a successful fair each year.

Applications are available at the Contra Costa County Fair Administration Office, 1201 W. 10th St. in Antioch. Parents or teens with questions can call Becki or Lisa at

757-4400.
