Cooch's Fishing entered the positional round action reeling two weeks ago. After getting beat 19-9 the week before by Creative Memories, captain Darrell Hanson wanted to make sure history didn't repeat itself. Darrell averaged 231 against Creative Memories and leadoff bowler Andy Cuccia fired games of 238 and 235 as Cooch's Fishing steamrolled Creative Memories in a 28-0 sweep. The loss sent Creative Memories staggering back into third place and vaulted Cooch's Fishing into the top spot.
Meanwhile, Dan Braudrick Services soared behind the top two scores in the league. Captain Juergen Siemers and leadoff bowler Kent Welker shot 946 and 947, respectively, on their way to winning a league-best 43 points. The night helped Dan Braudrick Services climb up from fourth to second place, and set the stage for a match-up with Cooch's Fishing this past Monday night.
Unfortunately for Dan Braudrick Services, Cooch's Fishing was able to land a 22-6 win on Monday. Coupled with a 45-point night for Creative Memories, Dan Braudrick Services was relegated back into third place. Clark Walmer led the charge for Creative Memories with games of 246, 279, 224, and 254 for a league-best 1003 four-game set. It was the second time this year Walmer had averaged at least 250 for a night. On the women's side, Xan Halog, captain and anchor bowler for AmeriSpec Home Inspection, rolled games of 245, 228, 235, and 264 for a season-best 972 pinfall.
When the dust settled on Monday, Cooch's Fishing retained first place in the league by winning 40 points. But with the 45 points won by Creative Memories, its lead was cut to only five points. And this brings us back to where we were two weeks ago: Cooch's Fishing and Creative Memories will meet in next week's position round with the top spot hanging in the balance. The meeting will be the third in the past four weeks and will set the scene for the last week of the season, which ends on Aug. 28.
