The filing period for the Nov. 7 general election has closed, and the slate of citizens seeking office in the Discovery Bay and Byron communities has been finalized.

Five candidates are running for seats on the Byron Union School District's board of trustees. The lone incumbent in the race is Lisa Hultz, appointed to the board in December of 2004. Incumbents Dennis Kutsuris and Linda Taylor did not file for re-election in the Nov. 7. The non-incumbent candidates are Jennifer Mixon, 35, a Discovery Bay homemaker who said she has lived in Byron for about two and a half years; Karri Murayama, a Discovery Bay homemaker; Bobbi Nugent, a Discovery Bay parent; Jill Sprenkel, a parent from Byron; and Maria Ann Sturdivant, 44, an Alameda County child-support caseworker who has lived in Discovery Bay slightly over three years.

In the race for seats on the board of Discovery Bay's Community Services District are Patricia Knight, appointed to the CSD directorship and running unopposed for the board's short-term seat, and her three incumbent colleagues - David Piepho, Shannon Teixeira and Ray Tetreault - locked in a four-way race for three long-term seats. The incumbents are being challenged by Dave Dove, 60, a retired semi-conductor salesman who has lived in Discovery Bay since June of 2003.
