The Byron Union School District is accepting applications for a Measure C School Bond Citizen's Oversight Committee. The formation of such a committee is required when a Prop 39 bond is passed. The committee is charged with monitoring and reporting on the expenditure of Measure C bond proceeds and informing the public at least annually concerning the expenditure of the bond proceeds by issuing a written report.

According to the board's by-laws, the committee will consist of at least seven members, five of whom must correspond to specific profiles. One member should be active in a business organization representing the district's business community; another should be active in a senior citizens' organization; one member should be the parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district; another should be both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the district and active in a parent-teacher organization; and one member should be active in a bona fide taxpayers' organization. The remaining members-at-large will be appointed at the discretion of the board. Each member will hold office for two years and may serve two terms.

To be a qualified member of the committee, a person must be at least 18 years of age and a citizen of the State of California in accordance with Section 1020 of the California Government Code; not be an employee or official of the school district; and not be a vendor, contractor or consultant of the district.

Residents interested in serving who meet the requirements for committee appointment should contact Superintendent Dr. Tom Meyer at 634-6644 for more information. An application addressed to Dr. Meyer should list which membership slot(s) the applicant meets and provide proof of citizenship and age through a California Driver's License. All nominations will be presented to the School board on Sept. 5. The deadline for submitting applications is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
