Pittsburg is a city with a robust history in coal and sand mining, which inspired the project name. The sand at Vidrio's site was once used in the manufacturing of glass products. In honor of that history, the project is named Vidrio, meaning "glass" in Spanish.
The City of Pittsburg has invested more than $50 million into the redevelopment of the city, and approximately $20 million into Vidrio. Vidrio buyers will benefit from the first-ever Bay Area Workforce Housing Fund, created by AF Evans with the help of private investors.
Vidrio will encompass 195 for-sale residential units, housing more than 400 residents. The neighborhood-friendly design will resemble current structures in Old Town Pittsburg, and include pedestrian bridges from one building to another that link shared facilities, such as the recreation center. Vidrio will feature courtyards with sculptures and fountains, 12- to 18-foot-wide sidewalks, and 40,000 square feet of retail space. The project will cost approximately $110 million, and will be the largest mixed-use housing project as part of the redevelopment of Old Town Pittsburg.
