Elated over the logo

Editor:

The Byron-Brentwood-Knightsen Union Cemetery District, which owns and maintains Union Cemetery on Brentwood Boulevard (located halfway between Brentwood and Discovery Bay on State Route 4), would like to acknowledge the volunteer efforts of Chantelle Leighton for the designing of a new logo.

The logo is a first for the cemetery district. Leighton, an artist and graphics designer, is the owner of Chantelle's Graphics Design Company located in Byron and specializing in the corporate identities.

While home from college the summer between her freshman and sophomore year, Leighton developed the initial graphics for the Brentwood CornFest, including "Happy Corn," a symbol still in use during the annual celebration of East County's agricultural roots.

The logo was the brainchild of Union Cemetery district trustee Gregg Williams, who represents the Knightsen and Bethel Island areas. Williams, also a graphics designer for industrial applications, devised the initial concept. Leighton took it one step further, adding art work and color.

In addition to its stationery, the district plans to eventually use the logo on envelopes, stamps and even its roadworthy vehicles.
