Kendra August is sticking to her healthy New Year's resolutions at a place she feels comfortable: the Delta Family YMCA, with a gym for working out, daycare for her two children and a variety of health resources.

"We spend a lot of time here; it's like our second home," said the longtime YMCA member Saturday at the club's first health fair, which featured wellbeing services, 24 vendors, club tours, cooking demonstrations and seminars with Dr. Charles Hearey.

Recognizing the interest at this time of year in getting in shape, the Mt. Diablo Region YMCA combined its efforts with Kaiser Permanente to create the community outreach event for all ages.

"I thought the fair was really helpful," said August. "I liked the nutrition ideas and activities to do with my kids."

For the adults there were express cardio and personal training workshops, cooking demonstrations, general health seminars, and vendors providing information on foot care, blood pressure and cholesterol screening, dental, and community services.

The kids were busy learning through fun activities such as gymnastics, face painting, balloons and crafts. And Fido and Fluffy weren't left out, as information on pet care was provided by ARF.
