On Jan. 9, Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary N. Piepho was sworn in as Chair of the Board of Supervisors. At a ceremony in the Board Chambers, Piepho took the oath of office and officially commenced the start of a new year for the county. Supervisor Piepho is the District III Supervisor, who has jurisdiction over the largest district in Contra Costa County, encompassing Danville, Alamo, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Diablo, Blackhawk, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen and Brentwood.

"I am very proud to represent the county as Chair of the Board of Supervisors," said Piepho. "It allows me an opportunity to bring forth my focus on efficient and cost-effective county services while balancing our ever critical county budget so that expenditures do not exceed revenues."

Piepho was elected in November of 2004, and served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Supervisors in 2006. Piepho will now be conducting the weekly convening meetings of the Board of Supervisors throughout the year. The Board of Supervisors meets on Tuesdays at 9:30 in Martinez at 651 Pine St.

In her new role as chair, Piepho will continue her focus on the accountability of county staff and the reforming of county services, making them more constituent friendly.

As a member of the board's Transportation, Water and Infrastructure and Finance committees, she has focused on issues such as improving transportation in Contra Costa County, fiscal recovery, protecting its citizen's through public safety, and preserving our natural resources. Piepho is also a strong advocate of programs that will have positive impacts on our youth in Contra Costa County.
