Four people have been nominated for the Antioch Citizen of the Year: Gary Gilbert for his community activism on quality-of-life issues; Barbara Herendeen for a lifetime of service that includes the Antioch Education Foundation, Antioch Historical Society and numerous local charitable activities; Robert Kilbourne Sr. for his work with the FourAC tutoring and mentoring program; and Judy Mori for her continuing service with Grannies Anonymous, providing toys for needy Antioch children.
There are five nominees for Business of the Year: Allied Waste Services for its support of the Rotary Club of the Delta, the Antioch Historical Society and numerous local sponsorships; Delta Diablo Sanitation District for its recycling and hazardous waste programs and school education projects; Parcel Plus for its personalized service and willingness to go the extra mile for people in need; Schooners Bar & Grille for its support of Antioch's Educational Foundation with a golf tournament; and Umpqua Bank for its constant and continuing community support.
New this year is the category of Youth of the Year, which has two nominees: Morriah Nicollette Antu for her work with the FourAC Tutoring and Mentoring program; and Samantha Haycock for her work on myriad projects, mostly through a church program, which includes Relay for Life and food for the homeless and hungry.
