Freedom High senior Amanda Madrigal signed her official letter of intent last Thursday to swim for the University of Minnesota Moorhead this fall.

A four-year varsity swimmer at Freedom and nine-year member of the competitive Terrapins Swim Team, Madrigal will specialize in the 200- and 400-meter Individual Medley as well as the 100-Butterfly event with the Dragon program, which boasts an indoor pool facility.

"I'm nervous and excited," she said. "I really like their swim team and the coach. I wanted a program that felt like a family and they definitely do."

Freedom High coach Robin Kneer called Madrigal a "gifted swimmer and a team player," and said she'll be a great addition to the Moorhead program.

Madrigal intends to major in either nutrition or exercise science in college.
