Activities include health screenings, arts and crafts, interactive games, cooking demonstrations, health and safety seminars, health and fitness classes designed for kids, and a free family picnic.
A free YMCA giveaway for parents with tips on raising healthy, active kids will be available, as will prizes for all children who participate in the day's activities. In addition, registration for summer programs and camps will also take place at the event.
The percentage of overweight young people has tripled over the last 25 years. Children who develop healthy exercise and eating habits are more likely to continue to lead healthy lifestyles through adulthood.
"The need is as strong today as ever before," said Adrienne Carew, vice president of Strategic Marketing and Relationships for the Mt. Diablo Region YMCA. "Families are under increased stress and struggle to balance work, family and health to find supportive communities.
"More physical activity through play helps children better manage stress, succeed in school, reduce frustration, build energy and, most of all, learn skills that encourage a lifetime of activity."
