Wine and chocolate are a match made in heaven. Throughout history, gourmands have revered this duo as the food of the gods. Fortunately for us, we needn't be gods to indulge in these fine creations.

On Sunday, June 3 from 5 to 8 p.m., Special Kids Foundation, Inc. will be holding a Wine and Chocolate Tasting benefit on the grounds of Hannah-Nicole Vineyard in Brentwood. In addition to fine wines and decadent chocolates, guests will enjoy a live band and silent auction. Tickets are $50 per person and space is limited. Proceeds of the event will benefit Special Kids Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of special kids and their families.

According to Special Kids founder Lisa McBride, "Our goal is to provide support, friendship and a oneness with these incredibly challenged families, while providing them with the resources to navigate the difficult road of raising these special kids to be productive, happy, successful adults, regardless of their disabilities." McBride's vision entails an all-inclusive facility that will include therapy/sensory rooms, a parent resource library, nutrition center, as well as a hippo-therapy arena, aquatic center and respite childcare center.

As a future step, McBride hopes to build a residential home for older generations of Special Kids who require assisted living. According to McBride's friend, Laura Bevilacqua, "There is no doubt Lisa will make these dreams a reality. She is a real go-getter. I consider her a pit bull, for once she has the 'jaws' of her mind set, there is no letting go."

In her daily life, McBride teaches fifth grade at Sutter Elementary School in Antioch. She also leads a support group for Eastern Contra Costa County families of special needs children that meets the second Wednesday of every month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Panera in Antioch. Most importantly, McBride is a devoted wife and mother to three children, one of whom is autistic.
