Another memorable Bay Valley Athletic League softball season came to a close last week, as Freedom (14-2 BVAL, 19-4 overall) found itself in familiar territory atop the league standings. Clayton Valley (12-3, 15-7) finished in second place, a half game ahead of Heritage (12-4, 18-5) and Deer Valley (12-4, 16-7). All four teams advanced to the NCS playoffs, which began Tuesday after the Antioch Press went to print.

The Falcons finished the regular season on a 12-game win streak, riding a phenomenal second-half performance by pitcher Hannah Williams, who was named the league's MVP on Monday, to their sixth consecutive BVAL crown.

"It is more satisfying (than past championships), especially with a lot of people predicting that such a young team would be limited," said Freedom head coach Michele Moore. "That part of the achievement has been wonderful, not just for me as a coach, but for the kids. We didn't have the big-name players that we've had in the past, and that makes this team absolutely appreciate what they've got."
