The East County Maniacs, an 11U tournament baseball team comprised of players from Brentwood, Oakley, Discovery Bay and Knightsen, earned its first championship title of the season June 23-24, going 4-0 at the Summer Splash tournament. Playing on Manteca's Big League Dreams field, the Maniacs saw their dream of bringing home a tournament trophy come true after a series of second-, third- and fourth-place finishes in recent weeks. The team allowed just nine runs in four games, five of them earned, and scored 27 runs of its own. At the end of the two-day event the Player of the Tournament trophy was awarded to the entire team. The Maniacs have a few more tournaments left on the schedule, allowing for more opportunities to bring home the hardware. The East County Maniacs are Tyler Bergen, Robbie Brunham, Johnny Doherty, Blaine Franke, Derian Goins, Cody Luther, Austin McCullough, Nick Perez, Kevin Petrangelo, Justin Sisneros and Dylan Wold. The Maniacs coaches are Mike Petrangelo, Rick Sisneros, Jeff Wold, and the manager is Jorge Perez.
