Event Chairman Peter Duncan said the local tournament is sure to draw wakeboarders and water skiers of all ages, skills and styles. Wakeboarders are attracted to the Delta's calm waters, Duncan said, adding that he believes it's important to have well-sponsored, organized local events to help water sports grow and provide a proving ground for young talent.
Wakeboarding has become one of the most popular activities on the Delta and Northern California is home to many talented riders known for their free-flowing style, Duncan said. The event provides a forum for local wakeboarders to show off tricks they've been practicing all summer.
The INT Hang Time event is an official tour stop for the Nor Cal INT League, which hosts eight events each year and is run by Chuck and Linda Payton. Participants in the INT League earn points at each tour stop toward a coveted spot at the National event in September, representing Northern California's best talent. The event is open to wakeboarders and water skiers of all ages and skill levels, from Novice to Outlaw (semi-pro).
This is the fourth year for the Delta Hang Time. This year's event, organized by the Berkeley Water Ski Club and Nor Cal INT League, has been expanded to include water skiing at the famed Berkeley Water Ski Club Delta site and will include an exhibition Wake Surfing event on Sunday, Aug. 5.
Participants can look forward to numerous giveaways from the event's sponsors, including Nor Cal Mastercraft, West Marine, Larson Marine, Hyperlite, Red Bull, Babe's Boat Products, The Delta Wakeboard Camp, C.I.E., Homegrown Clothing, Shasta Wakeboard School, HSE Trident, and Inland Surfer. They'll also get a chance to ride behind some of the most impressive wakeboard and water ski boats available.
Admission is free for spectators. Advanced registration is advised for event participants. Registration forms will be accepted the day of the event if space is available.
