Lorey Amaro is like the hummingbird logo of her Joyful Vibrations Wellness Center and Spa – energetic, bright and always in motion.

“I do have a lot of energy,” laughed the Discovery Bay resident and owner/operator of the town’s newest spa and wellness center. “But I love what I do, and being able to share some of that joy with people is what this is all about.”

Sharing, corralling and opening metaphysical doors are what Amaro provides at her Joyful Vibrations Wellness Spa. Focusing on the total person, she takes a spiritual and holistic approach to overall health and wraps it in a welcoming, elegant and peaceful package.

Open since April in the Lakeview Center in Discovery Bay, Joyful Vibrations offers all the accouterments for the outer self: hair, nails, body treatments, massages and tanning, in conjunction with alternative health services such as intuitive readings, yoga, spiritual and health-related classes, books and gifts. Think of it as one-stop shopping for the body and soul.

“I’m a firm believer in taking care of the outside as well as the inside,” said Amaro. “After all, who doesn’t want to tap into their goddess energy? Some people come in and want to work on their outer self, some on their inner selves and some both. I’m just here to help people on their journey of life, wherever it takes them.”

Amaro’s own journey of self-discovery has played an integral role in her Discovery Bay project. For years she pursued a high-powered and demanding career in the auto industry, fostering experiences – positive and negative – that brought her to Joyful Vibrations.

“I’ve always been a very intense and serious person,” said Amaro. “And I got to the point where I wanted to look and feel happier; to do something that filled me up. Life is a journey and I try to help people on that journey. There is no right way to do it; how you get there is up to you. What we offer here is a sense of community with like-minded people. Information is power, knowledge is power and that’s what we try to offer here.”

Such information comes in myriad forms at Joyful Vibrations, from yoga classes and books on metaphysics to holistic vitamins, bottles of raw honey (“good for sinus and respitory ailments”) plus guided-meditation and serenity tapes and DVDs. Gift items include jewelry, candles, scents and lotions. If you can imagine it, you’ll likely find it at Joyful Vibrations. And if you can’t imagine it, you can relax and unwind on one of the plush sofas in the Tuscany-styled spa center and wait for inspiration to strike.

“This is all about feeling comfortable, supported and loved,” said Amaro. “If you try to learn and grow and not stay stuck where you are, the possibilities are endless. If I have a core value for Joyful Vibrations, it’s that we’re all connected, and if you’re willing to make that shift in your life and be open to the possibilities, you might surprise yourself. How can you not get excited about that?”

Joyful Vibrations Wellness Center and Spa, located at 2465 Discovery Bay Blvd., Suite 202, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Spa appointments and classes may be booked online at www.joyfulvibrations.com or by calling 925-513-5443.
