The 2008 East Diablo Galaxy completed a successful season at the recent State Association Cup Tournament in Redding.

Beginning in April of 2008 with 11 players new to the team, the Galaxy played 57 games, including Spring League Play, six tournaments and made a second-place finish in District 4 league play, U12 Girls Division 3 Gold Flight.

The girls worked all season in anticipation of the Association Cup and did not disappoint, despite drawing some tough opponents. On the first day of the tournament, the Galaxy tied a good Rohnert Park team and then played the Stockton Storm, which boasted a 42-2-1 record coming into the tournament. The Galaxy took the lead twice and the Storm battled back. In the end, the Galaxy girls held Stockton to a tie at 2-2, knocking it out of the tournament.

The Galaxy’s last opponent was the Fair Oaks Storm II from Sacramento, a strong team that overcame the Galaxy on its way to the Final Four of a 64-team field.

The coaching team of John Simmons, Marco Salgado, Brent Bridges and Morris Carlson, plus the players’ parents, are proud of how far Team Galaxy went in 2008, are excited for the 2009 season. Tryouts will be held the weekends of Feb. 28 and March 7. Check www.edysl for additional details.
