The Brentwood Press and Hot Talk 560 KSFO have partnered to host the second annual Corn Recipe Contest. If you haven’t submitted your favorite homemade corn recipe yet, the deadline has been extended to Sunday, July 1.
A panel of judges will narrow the initial entries to 10 finalists, who will bring their creations to the CornFest on Sunday, July 15 for final judging. Local celebrity judges, including Mayor Bob Taylor, will assess recipes for flavor, presentation and the level of creativity in incorporating corn into the dish. Last year’s winner was a creamed corn recipe submitted by Cindy Shehorn.
Submit your recipe to firstname.lastname@example.org or via www.thepress.net/corn_recipe. This year’s prize packages include tickets to Bay Area concerts, sporting events including Giants games, and gift certificates to local restaurants.
All entries will be considered for publication in The Press’ second CornFest Cookbook.
If you aren’t good in the kitchen, there are other ways to get involved in corn-related contests at CornFest. Corn-eating contests for adults and children, sponsored by Markstein and Bud Light, have been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The public is also invited to help break the world record for the most people husking corn at one time. Sutter Delta Medical is sponsoring the record-breaking attempt, which will be overseen by officials from Guinness World Records. The record is currently held by Southern California’s Knott’s Berry Farm at 351.
The CornFest, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has been relocated to the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Technology Way near Jack in the Box. Parking and the entrance will be located at the corner of O’Hara Avenue and Sand Creek Road.
