Tough economic times can make it difficult for military brides to afford even the basic elements of their magical day.

But His & Hers Formal Wear in Brentwood is joining Brides Across America, a Massachusetts-based organization, to provide free designer wedding gowns to military brides-to-be. The event is held July 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at His & Hers Formal Wear, 625 First St.

Since 2007, Brides Across America and its partners have given away more than 3,000 wedding gowns nationwide.

To qualify, brides must be engaged, the bride or groom must be on active duty in the military, or have orders to be deployed. Brides need not reside in the area where the giveaway is taking place, but must be present to select the gown.

“We’re grateful to be in a position to give back to the military personnel and their families for all that they give to us,” said His & Hers Co-owner Annette Beckstrand. “This is our third year doing this and we’re looking forward to the event.”
