A man was shot and killed by Antioch Police Thursday after he opened fire on officers.

Police say Antioch resident Denny Gonzales, 35, fired at them as they were trying to persuade him to drop his firearm. Police returned fire, killing Gonzales.

Police arrived at the 4800 block of Lefebvre Way shortly before 4 p.m. in response to several calls from Gonzales threatening to hurt himself or officers.

One witness described hearing 10 to 12 shots.
