Liberty High School graduate Christopher Garner, Class of 2005, recently attained his lifelong goal of earning his wings in the United States Air Force.
Garner attended San Jose State University, where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Detachment 045. He graduated college with honors, was named to the Dean’s List, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in aviation operations and minors in aerospace studies and business. He also received numerous awards from his Air Force ROTC detachment based on his performance as a cadet, which earned him a pilot slot.
Upon graduating, he received his commission as an officer in the Air Force and began pilot training. He graduated from Doss IFS (Initial Flight Screening), an Air Force four-week screening process for future pilots in Pueblo, Colo. and advanced to a grueling 12-month program of specialized undergraduate pilot training at Laughlin AFB, Texas.
Garner was the top performer in T-38 Talon, the Air Force’s twin-engine supersonic jet trainer, and received numerous awards, including the prestigious title of Distinguished Graduate.
The Air Force traditionally offers top students their first choice of aircraft. Chris chose the F-16, referred to by its pilots as the Viper. His current assignment is Luke AFB in Arizona, where he will receive specialized F-16 training.
