A 20-year-old Oakley man is recovering from multiple stab wounds following an altercation with his 17-year-old friend, possibly over an online game.

According to Contra Costa Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee, the incident occurred Monday afternoon around 1 p.m. at a residence on the 1500 block of Yosemite Circle in Oakley. Lee said the two were playing an online game from their own homes prior to the altercation.

“We’re not sure of the nature of what happened,” said Lee. “But we do know that just before the suspect went to the victim’s house, they were playing an online game and something happened that led him to the house.”

Police responded to a call from the victim’s mother, who said the suspect burst into the home, shot at her son and stabbed him multiple times. The victim, whose name is not being released, was not hit by the gunfire.

The suspect, a 17-year-old male, fled the scene on foot and, following a chase over backyards and fences, was apprehended at a residence on the 200 block of Chateau Court in Oakley. He was arrested and taken to juvenile hall in Martinez, where he has been booked on charges of attempted murder.

Those with information regarding the incident should call the Oakley Police Department at 925-625-8855.

It's very easy at this point to say, "What's this world coming to." A crime was committed possibly as the result of an on-line game? How silly that a kid would stab his friend for that. Where's his upbringing.
