In addition to the cook-off and car show, the family-friendly event features games, jumpy houses for children, food and music, plus a raffle and silent auction of sports memorabilia.
The cook-off is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society, the nation’s premier barbecue sanctioning body. The competition is divided into professional and backyard (amateur). Professionals will compete for $2,500 in prize money. Local police and fire departments are also invited to compete for a Public Safety trophy. Awards in several categories will be conferred in the car show. Entry fee for the Cook-off’s professional division is $100; $30 for the backyard division.
The event will raise funds for the Aubri Brown Club, a charity founded by former San Jose Sharks player Curtis Brown, who coaches kids and works on the Sharks’ postgame show. After Curtis and wife Ami lost a daughter to sudden infant death syndrome, they founded the Aubri Brown Club to assist families suffering from the loss of a child. Several other local charities have also been invited to participate in the event. For more information, visit www.cornerstoneweb.org/events/brentwood.
