Special Education students enrolled in the Lifeskills Program at Heritage and Liberty High schools got a rare opportunity to ice skate last month at the Streets of Brentwood Holiday On Ice venue.

Donning winter hats and mittens, the students enjoyed an afternoon of fun, laughter and exercise. Some made their way around the rink by clinging to the rails, some held on to a support-helper, and others took to the ice as if they’d been at it for years. Staff, faculty and family members joined in the fun, literally supporting students and one another along the way.

“Most people don’t realize that our students don’t get to take chances very often, or move out of their comfort zones,” said Special Education Program Coordinator Laura Albano. “Field trips expose them to life-changing events they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. Plus, they had so much fun!” Albano was especially grateful to Holiday on Ice Director Lynn Roberts for helping to provide such a wonderful experience for these fun-loving students.
